Cheryl's Story

Cheryl Genevieve Lewis of Ruther Glen, Virginia went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday April 22, 2020 in Richmond, Virginia. Cheryl was born on May 19, 1957 to the late Bertha E Thompson and Barney Boone. She was raised by the late James M. Thompson, Sr. Cheryl was an active member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Chilesburg, Va. where she served on the Hospitality Committee.

In her earlier years Cheryl attended school in Caroline and graduated from Caroline High School in 1978. After graduation she was employed in various occupations, but All American Truck Stop (formerly Jarrell Truck Plaza) in Doswell, Va. was one of her most memorable. Recently, she went back to her roots in hospitality and was employed at the Sleep Inn & Suites in Ashland, Va. as a Hospitality Manager.

Cheryl was a friend to many and never met a stranger. She had a gentle spirit and infectious giggle. Cheryl had a gift for many things and she inherited her love for baking and entertaining from her mother. Whether it was teaching others, sewing, decorating, or nail design, there was nothing she couldn't do.

Cheryl was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana to Malik and Nivek. Most of all she loved her family and instilled in her sons a strong sense of values that has served them well. Many will remember the rides to and from recreation games and sporting events as she carried car loads of kids. She will be dearly missed and will remain forever in our hearts.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her sisters Clementine Baker, Paula Boone, Gale Garner and brother Walter Boone.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her fiancé Jessie Anderson, sons Kevin (Nicole) and Gerrod (Tameka) Lewis. Two grandchildren, Malik and Nivek Lewis. Six sisters Pennie Smith, Sidney Rollins (Lavada), Pamela Boone, Patricia Ferguson, Sheila Quash, Violet Young (Michael). Three brothers, James M. Thompson, Jr (Ann), Robert "Jack" Garner, Jr., and Corey Garner. Nephews, whom she helped raise with her late sister Gale Garner, Brandon Garner, Brenton "FuFu" Gordon, Joe "Tre" Baker,III and D'Andrea "Nooney" Baker. Last but certainly not least, a host of beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will remember her forever.

A viewing will be held  from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2020 at C. W . Edwards Funeral Home, Inc. 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.
