Deaconess Charlotte Allen Childs, affectionately known as Tabby, gained her wings early Wednesday
morning, August 14, 2024, at home with her family at the age of 85.
Charlotte was born to the late Curley and Martha Rollins on February 8, 1939, in Richmond, Virginia. She
was the eldest of eight siblings, whom all preceded her in death.
Charlotte received her formal education from Union High School in Bowling Green. She was employed at
Storke Funeral Home for over 50 years as Custodian. She also worked at Union Bank &Trust and various
other jobs part-time, which gave her plenty of time to dedicate to her family. One way she dedicated
time to her family was by supporting her husband and son's landscaping businesses for over 60 years as
the Administrative Assistant.
Charlotte was a dedicated member of Saint James Baptist Church and was named the "Mother of the
Church". She served on several ministries to include the Deaconess Ministry, Hospitality, Pastor's Aid,
Women's Ministry, Usher's Ministry. She was a loyal attendee of Wednesday night bible study and
Sunday school. She was a humble servant of God, and her faith was shown through her daily actions.
Charlotte married the love of her life, Roosevelt Childs, on September 22, 1957, at Reverend Guss'
home. From this union, three wonderful boys were born, Robert, Roosevelt Jr., and Kenny. The couple
shared 64 wonderful years of marriage together before Roosevelt's earthly departure in 2021.
In Charlotte's spare time she enjoyed going to Bingo with her bonus daughter Julia, traveling and
hanging out with her best friend Shirley, cooking for her sons, spending time with her great-
granddaughter, Giselle, and watching her favorite television shows Family Feud and The Young and the
Restless.
In February of this year, our family had a surprise 85th birthday party for Charlotte at the community
center. It was a blessing to be able to celebrate her birthday one last time with those who loved and
adored her. It was a celebration she said she would cherish forever.
Charlotte will be remembered as a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and
loyal friend. We will miss her hugs of comfort, words of encouragement, and unconditional love.
However, we find comfort knowing she is reunited with the love her life, Roosevelt, and safe with the
Lord.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt; five brothers: Junior, Earl, Charles,
Raymond, and Tommy Rollins; two sisters: Dorothy Rollins and Clara George.
Her passing leaves a void in the lives of many who will cherish fond memories: three sons, Robert (Kitty),
Roosevelt Jr., and Kenny; goddaughter Alexcia Le'tia Rollins; bonus daughter Julia Monroe (Stoney);
three grandchildren, Delont'e (Katie), Breana, and India; great-grandchildren Giselle and Bryson; best
friend/sister Shirley Latney & family; devoted nephew Tony George (Sylvia); many other nieces and
nephews; and loyal friends: Fred and Lavarro Minor, Sandra Brown, Mary Deyo, and Bubba Johnson.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at St. James Baptist Church, 19514 Sparta Road, Milford, Virginia 22514.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at St. James Baptist Church with a viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
