A Time to be Born

Charles Dennis Chapman, affectionately known as Charlie Boy, Chuck, and Tuna was born to the late Roberta E. Myers Chapman and Odell Dennis Chapman on June 6, 1952 in Richmond, Virginia.

A Time to Learn

Charles graduated from Bowling Green Senior High School in 1973. He was the lead runner in track and he also received his barber's license from the State Board of Virginia under the teaching of Dr. Bray.

A Time to Work

During his high school years, Charles was employed by Keller Ladder in Milford, Virginia.  After graduation, he moved to Washington, D.C. to pursue employment as a dietary worker at Washington Hospital Center.  In later years, he moved back to Virginia and was hired by Foreign Domestic.  When his health prevented him from working there, he became a "happy-go-lucky" gas attendant working with Tommy and Shorty Sims at Shorty's Texaco in Bowling Green, Virginia.

A Time to Worship

Charles joined Shiloh Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized by the anointing hands and the Word of God by the late Reverend A.P. Young.

A Time to Enjoy

Charles loved singing and playing the lead guitar along with his late brother, Wesley on bass.  He enjoyed listening to the Stylistics, Funkadelics, Temptations and Cameo, and of course, playing his favorite gospel song, "Don't believe He brought me this far to leave me", and at the end of every day, he would always say, "God is good" and "my God loves me, Carolyn"!

A Time to Mourn

Charles Dennis Chapman was touched by an angel and received his wings to ascend to his heavenly home on September 14, 2020 while peacefully sleeping on his couch in front of his flat screen television.  As always, that is where you would find him—kicked back—and of course, he had just watched his favorite team, the Washington Redskins win their first game defeating the Philadelphia Eagles.  He would always say, "I am a diehard Redskin or I am an Indian."  He was always overjoyed when his team won—and would call just to tell me my team lost—"how about them Cowboys."

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Roberta and Odell Chapman, grandparents, Lucy and Rossie Myers, Bernice and Robert Childs, and Merrill Ross; two brothers, Richard Myers and Wesley Chapman; and two brothers-in-law, Hampton Eura and Arthur Baber.

Charles had a special love and bond with his children and grandchildren, and he leaves cherished and fond memories to five children; three daughters, Latinya Beverly and Sorita Young of Washington, D.C., and Quarnica LaShae Foxx of Bowling Green; two sons, Demetric Londell and Charles Delonte Foxx of Ruther Glen, Virginia; grandchildren, Darius Beverly, Quanaysia N. Foxx, Sha'Daysia W. Faunteroy, Brook Lynn, Avanni and Jovanni Foxx, Alaysia Fortune, Shayla, Dynisty and Nydiah Foxx; two great grandchildren, Naevonna Z. Monroe and Nazir Odell Moore; two brothers, Franklin Myers of Washington, D.C. and John Chapman of Fredericksburg, Virginia; four sisters, Bertha Eura of Fredericksburg, Bernice Fortune (William) of Stafford, Virginia, Carolyn Day (Sgt. Billy Day) of Ruther Glen and Sarah Y. Chapman of Burlington, N.C. (with whom he was very close; she honored his wishes and took care of all his needs); his children mothers, Joanne Brinkley, Deborah Ann Young and Valerie Foxx; three sisters-in-law, Cachita Myers of Bowling Green, Margaret Myers of Spotsylvania, Virginia, and Maxine Myers of Washington, D.C.; a devoted niece, Tiffany Chapman; a devoted great nephew, Jahmik "Red" Chapman; devoted cousins, Sonny, William, Henry and Luethel; two aunts, Lucille Myers of Bowling Green and Margaret Brooks of Washington, D.C.; devoted friends, Sammy, Hewby, Kid and Gloria; and all friends and neighbors at Acorn Trailer Park; caregivers, Danielle Chapman, Charnique "Poody" Roye and Rina Sanchez of Greensboro, North Carolina; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

A walk thru viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday September 25, 2020 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home Inc. 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday September 26,02020 at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home Inc., 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.

Interment will follow in Mt. Lawn Cemetery, Woodford, Virginia 22580
