Carrie Bell
Garlick
Dec 19, 1924 — Aug 24, 2026
Temple Hill, Maryland. 20748
Carrie B. Garlick was born on December 19, 1924, to the late John and Jennie Harris in King William, Virginia. Carrie, affectionately known as “Mom,” departed this life on Monday, August 24, 2026, at her daughter’s home in Temple Hills, Maryland.
Carrie gave her life to Christ at an early age and became a devoted member of Providence Baptist Church in Aylett, Virginia, where she remained a faithful member throughout her life. She was a God-fearing woman whose faith was evident in her service and dedication to the church. Over the years, her commitment led her to become the Mother of the Church.
Carrie was married to the late James E. Garlick for seventy years. From their union, they were blessed with three children: the late Bessie Garlick, Ester L. Saunders, and James T. Garlick.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Garlick; her parents, John Harris and Jennie B. Harris; her brother, Stanley Harris; and two sisters, Atwood Washington and Geneva Waller.
Although her formal education ended after the seventh grade, Carrie was intelligent, sharp, and resourceful. She loved working in her yard, especially cutting the grass and trimming weeds. When she was not outdoors, she enjoyed crocheting and always made sure to keep plenty of thread nearby, which she affectionately called “yarn.”
Carrie leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Ester Saunders (Alonso) of Temple Hills, Maryland; her son, James T. Garlick of Richmond, Virginia; her grandchildren, Taneisha, Alonso Jr. (Ebony), Domonique (Kristina), James, and Janyal O’Shea; her great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Mya, Jada, Chase, Tiaysia, DJ, Korrin, and Jae’Ceon; and her great-great-grandchild, Lenox.
She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Viola Anderson of Mangohick, Virginia, and Mrs. Queen Lurray of Smyrna, Delaware; her sister-in-law, Louise Harris of Richmond, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
