Carolyn Bernadette Hylton Brooks, 67, of Martinsville, died Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, NC. Carolyn was born in Washington, DC, on October 3, 1949, to the late Jesse James Hylton, Sr. and Earline Betty Green Hylton.
Carolyn retired from Bassett-Walker after twenty years of service. She served her country in the United States Army as a Sargent for nineteen years. After her discharge from the army, Carolyn made Bowling Green, Virginia, her home. She worked many years at Fort A. P. Hill and for the McDonald's Corporation.
She is survived by two daughters, Michelle Pritchett of Danville and Tomeka Willis of Eden, NC; a devoted granddaughter, Tiffany "CeCe" Brooks; one sister, Deborah Hairston of Martinsville; six special grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jesse Hylton, Jr.
A private celebration of life service will be held with military honors by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. Wright Funeral Services and Crematory of Martinsville, Virginia is serving the Brooks family.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, Inc., 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.
