Belva Celestine Brown was born on September 22, 1953, in Caroline County, Virginia, to the late Elliott F. Brown, Jr., and Minnie L. Fortune Brown. On Sunday, May 16, 2021, God peacefully transitioned Belva from labor to reward at Medstar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
Belva graduated in 1971 from Bowling Green Senior High School in Bowling Green, Virginia. Belva moved to Washington, D.C. with her Great-Aunt Robinette Lee. She began her career at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, LLP in Washington, D.C. as a Legal Secretary from March 1982 until December 2005. Belva spent many years working for several attorneys and then began supporting Mr. Harvey L. Pitt. She furthered her career with Mr. Pitt at his consulting firm, Kalorama Partners, LLC, as Executive/Administrative Assistant from January 2006 until her retirement in September 2020.
Belva loved life, family, laughing, and food. She particularly enjoyed baking. She loved dining and staying at 5-star hotels and restaurants. Her favorite place was New Orleans, Louisiana, known for its famous cuisine. She loved decorating and searching online for the beautiful mansion that she would purchase when she became a millionaire. She was an avid reader from mystery to romance novels. She loved music, especially when entertaining and being with her friends. Belva was baptized at an early age at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Sparta, Virginia, and was a member of Victory Christian Ministries International (VCMI) in Suitland, MD. She served on the Covenant Connector Ministry and served as an usher. She had several favorite scriptures, and she read scriptures to begin each day.
She is preceded in death by her son, Andre K. Brown, her parents, Elliott F. Brown Jr., and Minnie L. Fortune Brown, with whom she cherished and shared many beautiful times with. She leaves to love the life she lived so beautifully, two brothers, Elliott Fred III (Clarice) of Stafford, Virginia, Alan of Milford, Virginia, one sister, Cathy Harrell (Allen) of Waldorf, Maryland; two aunts, Romaine Greene (Howard) of Milford, Virginia, Shirley Lumpkin of Philadelphia Pennsylvania; two nieces, Stacey Brown of Washington, D.C. and Shannon White (Johnnie) of Centreville, Virginia; a special cousin/prayer partner/spiritual mentor Genie Dillard of Painesville, Ohio, a special cousin Rebecca Wilson of Washington D.C., a host of other dear cousins, relatives, friends and very special friendships from high school.
A walk through viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2021 at C.W. Funeral Home, Inc. 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Holiday Conference Center, 20 Sanford Drive, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22406.
Interment will follow in Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery, 21180 Bagby Road, Sparta, Virginia 22552
Due to COVID-19 a face covering or mask is required.
