Barbara Mae Sims was born on October 15, 1933 to the late Everett and Latisha Brown in Cedon, Virginia.
She quietly entered into eternal rest on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center in Spotsylvania, Va.
Barbara accepted Christ at an early age and joined Beulah Baptist Church in Woodford, Virginia, where she became a devoted servant to the Lord until her departure.
She enjoyed cooking and baking, which led to her job in food service at Howard University in Washington DC for several years.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Eugene Sims; two sons, Mark Sims and Albert Eugene Sims, Jr. affectionately known as "Sonny"; six brothers, Everett Brown, Jr., Seymour Brown, Willie Brown, Calvin Brown, Burton Brown, Elton Brown; one sister, Annette Washington.
She leaves cherished memories to her children, Valerie Diane Jeter (Robert); Barbara Elaine Jones, Wilbur Garnett Sims (Bertha Mae)and James Lionel Sims; two sisters, Latisha Boone (Gary); and Daisy Wright; three aunts, Lelia Carter, Cora Lee Coates (Walter); and Gloria Chatman (Carl); ten grandchildren, Sabrina Addison, Stacy Sims (Pandora), Terrah Palmer, (Fred); Miranda Turner, Dana Turner, Robert Jeter, Jr.,(Donna); Felicia Jeter, Sharonda Jones (James) Mario Sims and Nikita Fox (Spencer); 16 great grandchildren; a devoted cousin, Matlyn Edwards, a devoted friend, Annabelle Bynum and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 24, from noon to 8 p.m. at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia 22427.
A Celebration of Life will be at 12 noon, Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at Beulah Baptist Church, 5216 Arcadia Road, Woodford, Va. 22580, with Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Young, Pastor, officiating and Rev, Craig Beasley delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in the H & L Browns Cemetery in Cedon, Virginia.
