Alphonso Waverly
Minor, Sr.
Dec 1, 1942 — Nov 7, 2019
Ruther Glen
Alphonso Waverly Minor, Sr., affectionately known as "Noo" to family and close friends, was born on December 1, 1942 to the late Alphonso Minor and Thelma Harris Minor. On Thursday, November 7, 2019, God transitioned him to his heavenly home. He was preceded in death by his brother, Allen Lorenzo Minor.
Alphonso attended Caroline County Schools and graduated from Union High School. He joined St John Baptist Church at an early age and in later years, he became a member of the Trustee Ministry.
Alphonso started driving tractor trailers as a teenager and realized that this was his passion, so for more than 40 years, he was an over the road driver on the east coast and received several safe driving awards. He drove for several trucking companies, including Pilot Freight, Great Coastal and Red Star, from which he retired.
Alphonso was a wonderful husband and father and always made sure his family had everything they needed. He enjoyed working in his yard, raising a garden every year and riding his tractor on the Minor's property. He loved talking to people. He would talk to anyone he encountered, whether he knew them or not.
Alphonso leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 55 years, Pearl Brown Minor; two sons, Alfonzo Minor, Jr. (Angela T.) and Kevin Minor (Angela G.); one brother, Fred Minor (LaVarro); three grandchildren, Kristen Gardner, Justin Minor and Evan Minor; two uncles, Raymond Wright (Barbara) and Reginald Minor (Evelyn); three aunts, Elsie Childs, Vivian Claxton and Viola Shelton; three sisters in law, Betty Brown, Shirley Young and Gloria Samuel (MacArthur); two nieces, Sandra Minor and Towanda Capers (Kenneth); two long time trucking buddies, Gerald Tuck and John Henry Jones; three devoted cousins, Marcel Minor, Roland Johnson and Elmer Johnson; and a host of family and friends.
