Obituary

Alice Berniece "Bunky" Claiborne departed this life on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at Bon Secours St. Mary Hospital.

She was born September 26, 1937 to the late Eddie Robinson, Sr. and Mary Alice Washington.

Alice attended the Arlington, Virginia, public schools. She moved to Caroline County in 1960 where she met her devoted husband, George Claiborne. They had no children together but he reared her three children as his own.

Bundy loved doing hair and being the neighborhood beautician. She loved cooking and canning vegetables from her garden. She would cook for family and friends and insisted that they eat even if they weren't hungry. She loved to see people eating and enjoying her food. Bunky also enjoyed her music and making quilts.

Alice became ill one year ago and moved in with her daughter in Fredericksburg.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, George E. Claiborne; one son, Carl S. Robinson, Sr. and his wife, Gail; two daughters, Patricia A. Robinson and Karen E. Feldman; nine grandchildren, Michelle Mines, Alvin Mines, Jr. (Tina),Victor Mines (Sherrica), Norris Robinson (Carmen), Samantha Feldman, Cory Feldman, LaTasha Nelson, Brittney Robinson Felur and Carl S. Robinson, Jr.; three great grandchildren, Tyonna Robinson, Antoine Mines and Elijah Mines; three nieces, Joyce Anne Morris, Jacqueline Manuel (Stanley) and Sherrita Claiborne; four nephews, James Jordan, Jr., Earnest Barnes, Jr. (Joyce) and Eddie Childs, Jr.; one sister-in-law, Frances Claiborne; one brother-in-law, James Jordan, Sr.; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 16, at St. John Baptist Church, 17080 South River Road, Woodford, with the Rev. W. G. Berryman presiding and Rev. Duane Fields delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

A viewing will be held from noon to 8 p.m., Monday, December 15, at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m and one hour before service on Tuesday.
