Obituary

Alice Cassie Beverly Washington, made a peaceful transition to heaven on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at her residence. She showed great strength through challenging illnesses over the years.

Alice was reared in a Christian home and joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Newtown, Virginia and later became a member of St. John Baptist Church in Milford, Virginia where she served faithfully until her health began to fail.

Alice received her education in the public school system in Caroline County. She was a domestic worker and later was employed at Keller Industries in Milford, Virginia for 25 years.

On July 23,1939 Alice was united in holy matrimony to James Washington who preceded her in death. They had no children of their own but during the years they opened their hearts and home to other family members.

Alice loved her flowers and took great pride in her yard. She loved to travel. She traveled the United States on various trips that included a trip to Hawaii. She was awarded the honor of being Mother of the Church in 2012.She was also a member of the Willing Workers Ministries for 36 years and Ushered for the church for over 40 years.

Alice leaves to cherish her memories; one sister and caregiver, Eleanor Square of Ruther Glen, Virginia; devoted niece and caregiver ,Jackie M Ford of Ruther Glen, Virginia; three sisters- in-law. Myrtle Tinsley and Doretha Beverly both of Washington, D.C. and Madge Beverly of Ruther Glen, Virginia; great niece Shylania Ford, who often babysat on occasions and also Little David whom often would sing to her and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Viewing will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at C. W. Edwards Funeral Home, 16476 Richmond Turnpike, Bowling Green, Virginia and one hour before the service at the church.

A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at St. John Baptist Church, 17080 South River Road, Woodford, Virginia with the Reverend Dr. Alfred Jones delivering the eulogy.

Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
